THE press has been barred from covering the proceedings of a case in which Brig. Henry Tumukunde is challenging Lt. Gen. Elly Tumwine’s competence to try him.

This followed an application by the acting director for Civil litigation, Joseph Matsiko, saying issues to be raised touched national security.

Matsiko said, “This case should be closed to the public and the press because there are matters of the High Command that are likely to come up during the hearing.”

Tumukunde’s lawyers did not object to the application and justice Richard Okumu Wengi asked the press to move out of his chambers, where the hearing took place.

Tumukunde, charged with trading in harmful propaganda, is represented by six lawyers.

They comprise Enos Tumusiime, the lead counsel, McDusman Kabega, Oscar Kambona, Ronald Oine, Andrew Kahuma and Tom Magezi.
