CELTEL Uganda on Thursday joined Celtel International to launch their new East African Celtel-to-Celtel regional calling rates.

Speaking at the launch in Kampala, Cesear Mloka, Celtel’s marketing director, said the initiative aimed at making communication within the region cost effective.

“It confirms Celtel’s commitment to the East African region. Celtel subscribers in Uganda, Kenya and Tanzania can now enjoy special regional rates that are significantly lower than what was offered previously,” Mloka said.

Mloka said Celtel Uganda customers calling the same network in Kenya and Tanzania would be charged sh610 during peak hours and sh425 during off-peak.

Celtel Kenya customers calling Tanzania or Uganda will pay Ksh32 during peak hours and Ksh23 during off-peak hours.

Hans Moriz, Celtel Uganda’s operations manager said, “What we are witnessing today is our commitment to all customers living in East Africa.

“We believe in fulfilling the East African dream and bringing the region together.”

Celtel covers 40 districts in Uganda.
