THE Halcyon linked Charitable Trust UK has given 43 scholarships to students in Teso.

Under the scholarships, the students will access free secondary education and links to schools in the United Kingdom.

Helen Adoa, the charity’s director, said former LRA abductees, children orphaned by HIV/AIDS and needy children from Teso region were the beneficiaries.

Halcyon has roots in the UK but operates in disadvantaged regions to enable rural children access secondary education.

“This is the first group of students to benefit from the programme.

More students will be taken up in the next two years,” Adoa said, adding, “Some of the beneficiaries will be sponsored up to university level.”

Adoa was briefing journalists in her office upon return from a fundraising in London, where she also linked the children to Mill Hill School, the National Church School and Hacknal National School in the UK.
