TWO hundred men rendered jobless, six maize mills damaged and over 50,000 bags of maize lost was the damage caused by fire which engulfed Kiganda Zone in Kisenyi on Friday night.

The 11:00pm fire, whose cause is still a mystery, burnt Omega, Busiki, Baganda, Kabadan, Musita, Salazaima and Bukonte maize mills, mostly wooden structures next to Christian Life Centre.

Moses Isabriye of Omega maize mill, who lost over 300 bags of maize and 200 bags of maize flour, said, “I was called in at around midnight just after the fire had started. The damage was extensive. Fire brigade came at around 1:00am but wouldn’t get access to the fire spot.”

He said, “It’s unfortunate that the only access to the fire was through Pastor Kiganda’s land, which was locked.”

Kisenyi millers’ chairman Richard Lubwama said over sh1b was lost in the fire.
