HUNDREDS of students poured into the city centre on their way to schools for the third and last term of 2005 on Monday.

According to the recently released Uganda National Examinations Board (UNEB) timetable, candidate classes have barely a month left to start their final examinations.

Nabisunsa Girls’ School Director of Studies, Mustafa Miwa, said briefing for O’level students is slated for October 14, hardly a month from now.

Sources at UNEB said the Primary Leaving Examinations will be done on November 2 and 3. However, UNEB secretary Matthew Bukenya could not be reached for comment.

Miwa said, “Students doing French orals and Home Management practicals will start on September 21.” He said S6 candidates would start in mid-November.

By midday on Monday, several students were still stranded with their luggage at collection centres, including the Constitutional Square, Pride Theatre, Old and New Taxi Parks and the National Theatre.

In Kikuubo, one of the city’s busiest trading areas, there was a flurry of activity as parents and students flocked shops to purchase scholastic materials.

“Customers are always many and sales increase like it is the case with festive days like Valentines Day, Christmas, Easter and Idd,” said a trader who preferred anonymity.
