Kansanga traffic is simply a nightmare

SIR — I wish to draw your attention to the baffling traffic situation at the kabalagala-muyenga- Kansanga junction.

Whoever conceived the design of the intersection grossly overrated the virtues of patience and generosity to be found on Ugandan roads. He also grossly underrated the number of vehicles which regularly use that route. The lack of traffic lights or a roundabout renders many clueless as to who has the right of way.

There are never any traffic officers especially at night, and because of the confined road space in such a busy trading centre, only a few indisciplined drivers can quickly cause a huge problem.

The relative success of the Wandegeya junction shows that traffic lights were designed with ugandans in mind. Lack of power however can plunge the situation back into the stone age. This raises the point of traffic wardens.

The kabalagala- muyenga and kansanga junction becomes impassable every time there is a function at Speke Resort Munyonyo. a case in point is the last Goat race.

Is it really beyond the imagination of the proprietor of Speke Resort to spend a few thousand shillings on a few traffic wardens to help speed up the movement of his paying customers?

One or two wardens can ensure a smooth traffic flow from Munyonyo to the city centre. But it is traffic lights which can conclusively solve the problem.
