UGANDA is to launch a campaign dubbed ‘Brand Uganda’ over the worldwide Cable News Network (CNN) to recast its image abroad and among its citizens at home and in the diaspora.

The six-month campaign will be telecast beginning early October on the CNN programmes Inside Africa, CNN Online and CNN Travel Magazine.

A statement issued by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MOFA) said a stakeholders consultative committee on Brand Uganda met at the ministry’s Crane Boardroom where it represented a final report to the Government.

The committee gave recommendations on “the new Uganda Tag line and logo as well as the CNN campaign.”

“The Brand Uganda initiative is a programme to improve Uganda’s image among her citizens both at home and abroad and enhance the patriotic spirit within the people of Uganda while at the same time, changing the world’s perception of Uganda,” the statement said.

The stakeholders consultative committee comprises senior officials from MOFA, the Office of the Prime Minister, Ministry of Tourism, Trade and Industry in collaboration with TERP (Uganda), SCOPE and Lowe-Scanad.

Prof. Mondo Kagonyera (general duties minister, who represented the Prime Minister), Augustine Nshimye (regional cooperation) and Jovino Akaki (state for tourism) attended the Thursday meeting.

Nshimye, who hosted the meeting, hailed the initiative as “timely in view of the latest change in Uganda’s diplomatic strategy from traditional to commercial diplomacy.”

He said the “branding of Uganda as a unique product would facilitate the work of marketing Uganda by diplomats abroad.”
