CIVIL society organisations have asked the government to enact a new social security law.

“The Cabinet should prioritise, if possible before the 2006 elections, to enact a new social sector law. We demand an expeditious enactment of the new social security legislation that provides for benefits that are relevant to the needs of contributors,” said the chairperson of Society organisation Coalition on Social security Reform in uganda, Lilliane Mugerwa.

Addressing reporters in Kampala on Thursday, Mugerwa said the 1985 NSSF Act had legal gaps which rendered the NSSF susceptible to “political manipulation and exploitation.”
