URA is mandated only to collect the taxes

SIR — This is in response to Mr. Moses Khisa’s article entitled “Who benefits from the taxes collected?” published on September 22. The Uganda Revenue Authority (URA) changed approach in the way its information is disseminated to the public. The policy shift dictated that the public is made fully aware of the operations of the organisation. It is in this regard that the tax collection made in a particular period are always made public. Khisa can only hold URA accountable for non-collection of taxes but not disbursement.
URA will continue to inform the public about its collection whether under target or above.
