Fida International, a Finnish development agency, in partnership with Pentecostal Churches of Uganda, has given over sh1.5b worth of aid to the internally displaced people (IDPs) in Katakwi, Amuria, Soroti, Apach and Lira district , an official has said.
Arto Heinonen was recently launching the  distribution of non-food items to over 7,600 IDPs in Obalanga sub-county, Amuria district, and Amilimil and Aketa in Katakwi district.
The items were bought with funds from the Finnish government. The items were distributed in cooperation with World Food Programme (WFP), through its Food for Asset programme.
Heinonen, who is also a missionary, urged the IDPs to embrace Jesus Christ, saying Jesus’ gift of life has eternal benefits, compared to the non-food items they were receiving.
He, however, pledged Fida International’s continued support to IDPs in northern Uganda, especially during the resettlement phase when peace returns to the region.
Heinonen encouraged the IDPs to utilise the implements for agricultural purposes to promote food security.
Fida will supply tools as WHO supplies food.
