CASTROL Oil and its trading partner Mogas have pumped sh68m in the Castrol-Mogas Independence Rally due October 14-16.
Mogas Uganda managing director Denis Abasa, who handed over a dummy cheque of sh48m at the launch of the rally yesterday, said that additional non-cash resources would push the total sponsorship package to sh68m.
The sponsorship will cater for accommodation for competitors and officials in Jinja, fuel, prizes, operational costs and promotion of the event, among others.
“This is a strong reflection of the support and resolve of the continental partners and principles of both Castrol and Mogas whose logistical and technical support includes top of the range trophies for deserving crews,” Abasa said.
Abasa said they decided to take the rally back to Busoga because of the good reception it received last year.
“The return of the rally to Jinja is a reward to both the rally fans and residents for exhibition of strong patronage for this particular event while maintaining safety directives issued,” Abasa added.
The rally will start with a super special stage at the agricultural showground in Jinja on October 15, with the second leg covering eight sections in the Busoga region the next day.
Issa Numba, Masur Sanya, Joseph Kasozi and Abbas Mayinja have already registered for the final round of the National Rally Championship that will decide the 2005 national champion.
