A GARBAGE recycling plant worth sh540m will be established in Mukono town council next month, the mayor, Johnson Muyanja, has said.

“The World Bank has agreed to fund the project and we expect it to be operational by the end of the year,” Muyanja said.

He said the project would kick off as soon as an environmental impact assessment report is received from the national Environmental management Authority.

Addressing reporters at Colline Hotel, Mukono on Friday, Muyanja said the garbage would be sorted out in two categories.

“Foodstuffs will be used for making animal cake and composite manure,” he said, adding that expatriates expected in November would be consulted on what to turn the polythene bags into.

He said under the municipality-Mukono town council partnership, women would be availed with free entrepreneurial skills like tailoring and computer operation.
