Elections for village National Resistance Movement (NRM) party executives started peacefully yesterday in most parts of the country

Elections for village National Resistance Movement (NRM) party executives started peacefully yesterday in most parts of the country.
The National Political Commissar, Dr Crispus Kiyonga, health minister Maj. Gen. Jim Muhwezi and his wife Susan were on Friday elected un-opposed.
Kiyonga was elected un-opposed as chairperson of Bunyiswa village in Bukonzo west.
Jim Muhwezi was elected chairperson and Susan elected secretary for finance on the executive committees of Kagunga village, Kigaga parish, Nyakagyeme sub-county in Rukungiri district.
However, elections in Kiboga and Mityana were postponed to Monday and Tuesday because Buganda’s King Ronald Mutebi was visiting the area.
In Luweero, a district aspirant, Ignatius Koomu, said no ballot papers and boxes had been sent to the area by 1:00pm. Koomu said he suspected Kigozi Ssempala, the interim chairman of Nakaseke, deliberately caused the delay.
In Mbale, reports said Municipality MP Wanjusi Wasieba had been barred from registering because he reportedly has no home in the town.
About 200 out of the 400 registered voters in Ssesanga village, Mengo, in Kampala Central had turned up to vote by midday. Nakawa and Makindye divisions registered a good turn-up.
In other parts of the city with many office workers such as the Community Flats village in Kololo 4, the elections were postponed to today. Former Kibaale RDC Patrick Baliddawa said it was only fair that office workers be allowed to vote on a more convenient day.
Makindye Division NRM electoral commission official Gamweru Kigozi said although the voting materials were sent late, the exercise started well.
Kigozi said the contest between Benjamin Kyeyune and Gabudieri Musisi for the Ggaba village chairmanship was marred by accusations that Musisi, the incumbent LC1 chairman, had illegally given party cards to Kampala International University students to vote for him.
