The Lango Parliamentary Group (LPG) has described former president Milton Obote as a father of the nation who should be accorded a state burial.
Addressing the press yesterday, LPG chairperson Dr. Okullo Epak said it was Obote who was entrusted with the instruments of power at independence and that he was the one who granted Uganda a republic status.

Uganda People’s Congress (UPC) supporters have said Dr. Milton Obote championed the struggle for independence. “Though he did bad things to the Baganda, he should be remembered in terms of Uganda’s independence,” David Kikomeko, the district UPC chairman, told journalists at his office yesterday.

Party grieves

Action Party has mourned former president Milton Obote.
Party president Nelson Ocheger yesterday said, “All of us received with shock news that the man who received the instruments of power in 1962 had passed away. We are saddened because it has occurred at a time when we are about to make important political decisions,” Ocheger said.
