THREE MPs agitating for the creation of Kalungu district from Masaka have started lobbying their colleagues to back them after they met stiff resistance from the district chairman, Vincent Ssempijja.
MPs Maurice Kagimu (Bukomansimbi), Lule Mawuya (Kalungu East) and Anthony Yiga (kalungu West) want the three constituencies to be elevated to district status.
Addressing the press at Hotel Brovad in Masaka on Saturday, Mawuya said he would not give up the struggle for a new district.
However, the district council rejected the MPs’ proposal, saying it was not a priority.
Ssempijja said the priority was extending electricity, roads, health centres and schools to the MPs’ constituencies.
