AT about 11:10pm, Trinity Broadcasting Network’s (TBN) proverbial signature tune rang through out Namboole Stadium.

It’s Climax: “You are part of the world’s largest prayer and praise gathering. Joining us from Kampala, Uganda your hosts Matthew and Lowrie Crouch”
confirmed a historic moment for Uganda and TBN. It was the first Praise the Lord programme being hosted out of the United States of America and the first programme in TBN’s 32-year history to host a president in office.

Throughout the night, TBN’s 47 satellites transmitted the events live to over 6,000 television stations watched by an estimated 4.1 billion people around the world.

The Watoto Children Choir launched the show with a charismatic rendition of Pastor Okudi’s Wipolo. And from then, the two-hour programme was interspersed by music and dialogue.

Pastor Robert Kayanja of Rubaga Miracle Centre Cathedral (MCC) hosted the first hour and Matthew and Lowrie Crouch hosted the second. Kayanja invited Bob Nicoles, Light House Television (LTV) chairman; Margeret Magnson, Chris Katuramu and Godfrey Mutabazi, the people responsible for the establishment of LTV, a subsidiary of TBN.

He also invited, from hundreds of pastors attending the overnight, pastors Imelda Namutebi, Isaac Kiwewesi, Apostle Alex Mitala and Joseph Serwada to give testimonies of how television evangelism has changed their ministries.

When Matthew and Lowrie took to the podium, they were spectacularly greeted with an uproar and awesome Mexican wave from over 20,000 people in the stands.

Matthew, who spoke in high praise of President Museveni, said, “Because of someone brave, we all stand in this country free to worship God.”

Echoing the theme of the overnight (Uganda has risen from the ashes), the president said, “It is true that Uganda has risen from the ashes and it was because of God’s blessings and hard work of you people here.”

Museveni stirred the congregation with Biblical quotations from Genesis 2:15 and Luke 19:11-26. The first lady, also quoted first Corinthians 15 saying TBN has given Uganda reason to thank God.

A colourfully dressed MCC mass choir shared these sentiments in the song, Oh Uganda. “Oh Uganda, rise and shine, the glory of the Lord is risen upon you, you should know that you are blessed, ...Uganda rejoice...”

Friday’s recorded version is scheduled for broadcast at 5:00pm today on LTV.
