DESPITE a furious rally, second-seeded Warriors have a lot of work ahead to turn the tables on Nkumba-Marines in the MTN basketball league playoffs.

Marines utilised the fourth quarter to open a 13-point lead, got 24 points from Norman Blick and overcame a late scare for a 73-62 victory over the error-riddled Warriors in the first game of their best-of-three series.

The Nkumba team that appears to be primed for a breakout playoff season erased a 3-point deficit in the third quarter with Donald Blick and Karol Bisereko contributing 16 and 11 points each to give the team a 1-0 advantage.

Ronnie Kasewu grabbed 17 points and 5 rebounds while Stephen Okias chipped in 16 points for Warriors who committed 7 turnovers after Marines sprung a full court pressure defense on them.

In another tense encounter, Josephine Namayega’s offense and Betty Namukasa’s defense secured A-1 Challenge a narrow 47-46 victory over 2003 league champions MUK-Sparks in the women’s playoffs.

Namayega had 12 points with two 3-pointers.
