PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has promoted the commander of Singo Army Training School, James Ssebaggala, from colonel to brigadier, for exemplary performance.

Ssebaggala joined the bracket of generals on Friday during a ceremony in Luweero district, where Museveni passed out 1,455 soldiers who completed a nine-month basic military training course. Most of them are university graduates.

Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Aronda Nyakairima said, “The Commander-in-Chief was happy because Ssebaggala did exactly what he has often told training officers to teach about tactics, skills and techniques.”

Museveni has also promoted 50 UPDF officers in northern Uganda and southern Sudan in recognition of their exemplary performance and efforts in fighting LRA rebels.

The promotions come a few weeks after Museveni promoted several top army officers to the ranks of generals.

In a statement yesterday, northern army spok-esman Lt. Chris Magezi said Museveni promoted 15 officers from the rank of captain to major and 34 lieutenants to captain.
