DR. Ian Clarke’s International Hospital Kampala has got a silver award for being the first runner-up to the Investor of the Year.

Ian Clarke, who owns the hospital with his wife, Robbie Clarke, received the award from the Third Deputy Prime Minister, Lt Gen Moses Ali, on Friday at Speke Resort Munyonyo in Kampala.

The executive director of the Uganda Investment Authority, Dr Maggie Kigozi, said the hospital responded to the Government’s call for increased foreign investment in the health sector.

“The company invested $8.4m (sh15.4b) in a modern medical facility and has created employment for 496 people,” Kigozi said.

She said the company spent $200,000 (sh368m) on staff training and saved a lot of foreign exchange that would be taken out of the country by people seeking health services outside Uganda.

Kigozi said the company realised a turnover of $4.7m (sh8.6b) and had enabled young doctors and nurses to practise and be trained to international standards.

“The hospital has also built confidence of tourists, assuring them of first-rate medical attention,” she said.

Ian Clarke said the hospital sponsors Children formerly abducted by Kony rebels to attend school and university.
