SIR — The former employees of Masindi District Local Government have formed an association called Masindi District Local Government retired civil servants association (MADIRECISA) for the purposes of addressing their concerns.

The members wish to urge both central and local governments to speed up the payment process of their benefits and gratuity and any other payments as stipulated in the public service guidelines when an employee is laid off.

Laying us off should not be a punishment to us and our families. We do not wish to cause public disorder but are requesting in a civil manner to have our interests taken care of. Why don’t the authorities concerned think of how we have been surviving since October 1.

After some of us have appealed on the matter, why can’t we get a feedback? Our silence on this matter should not make those concerned think that we are very silly.

We also appeal to our other disgruntled colleagues in other parts of the country to join hands with us and see that justice is done. How are we going to survive during the Christmas holidays which are at hand?
