INTERNATIONAL Labour Agency, one of the six local firms licensed recently to export labour, has sourced for over 7,000 jobs abroad for Ugandans.
Speaking to journalists in Kampala recently, the firm’s director, Hassan Mugoya, said they would start exporting labour by January next year after the jobs are approved by the External Employment Unit (EEU).
The EEU is a labour ministry body responsible for implementation of migrant workers’ export.
“We have sourced for over 7,000 jobs and are working with the EEU which is supposed to verify and approve them. After that, adverts will be placed this month. We want to start exporting during the first two months of 2006 if many of them are approved on time,” Mugoya (above) said.
He said, “We have already signed contracts and agreements with various labour companies to supply them with competent people. Our work is to source for such people here in line with the provisions of the labour laws here and outside labour demand.”
Mugoya said some of the companies that need labour are Almadina Agencies of Dubai, which wants 60 casual workers and 20 drivers, Arabian Employment Services that needs 1,000 casual workers and Asian Gulf Recruitment Estates that is looking for 2,800 casual workers to work in the oil fields.
Others are International Medical Recruitment of Australia that wants 5,000 nurses and ASE Consultants, UK, that is seeking 500 nurses and 100 care workers. Inter Hospital Recruitment Incorporated of Saudi Arabia is seeking 35 doctors.
He said they would also recruit 250 casual labourers to work in harbours in Australia.
