President Yoweri Museveni and eight other presidential aspirants had booked Thursday as their nomination day.
Museveni’s nomination at 2:00pm will be broadcast live, said Ofwono Opondo, the NRM national election campaign task force deputy publicity secretary.
Besigye, now in Luzira Prison on treason and rape charges, will be nominated in absentia at noon.
His team will carry his portrait to the nomination, FDC official Geoffrey Ekanya said yesterday.
After nomination, FDC supporters will proceed to Nakivubo stadium for the launch of the party’s manifesto and national election campaign task force, Ekanya said.
He said at Nakivubo, JEEMA, the CP and The Free Movement, would officially pledge their support to the FDC candidature.
However, Mayanja said he had not talked to FDC. “I can’t deny or confirm,†he said yesterday.
Miria will be nominated at 2:00pm, Ssebaana at 3:00pm and Mayanja at 4:00pm. Both Miria and Ssebaana will later separately address rallies in the afternoon.
Police spokesman Asuman mugenyi yesterday said processions would not be allowed in the Kampala business centre.
In all, 35 political parties and independents had been listed on EC’s schedule for booking nomination time for aspiring presidential candidates. Some parties had by 3:00pm not indicated their preferred date and time of nomination for their candidates.
First to be nominated today at 10:00am will be Emmanuel Tumusiime of the Forum for Integrity in Leadership.
