INDEPENDENT presidential candidate Hajji Nasser Ntege Sebaggala has promised to send 100,000 Ugandans annually for kyeyo (odd jobs) abroad to uplift the general standard of living in the country.

He said Ugandans were wallowing in poverty yet they could make money abroad to boost their livelihood and the country’s economy.

“We can use Kyeyo to lessen unemployment, do away with poverty and get the much-needed foreign exchange in the country,” Sebaggala said.

He added, “As a result of stinging poverty, most Ugandans have only one meal a day, which is not enough for the normal functioning of the body.”

Sebaggala was on Friday afternoon launching his manifesto at the Dairy grounds on Saza Road in Iganga town.

Earlier, his campaign double-cabin pick-up truck with huge tyres caused excitement in the town as it distributed posters while playing loud music.

He urged all Ugandans fed up of having inadequate meals to rally behind him and campaign for change in the leadership of Uganda.

“In the UK for example, people have four meals a day and get enough energy to work more and sustain their development. There is no way you can make a weak Ugandan who eats only supper to work diligently for his nation’s development,” he said.

He said president Yoweri Museveni’s bona bagagawale (wealth for all) programme could not bring about good results in the Ugandan setting.

“The creator of heaven and earth made people of different social standing and nobody will change that. You cannot expect a poor peasant in rural Iganga to wake up and be as rich as Sebaggala so the only way is to bring them to a certain level only,” Sebaggala said.

He said he could not support the idea of the opposition fielding a single candidate for the 2006 presidential elections.

“The Government machinery will work very hard to derail that candidate. Our only way of beating Museveni is by having many aspirants to deny him the 51% so that we get to second round of voting and win tactfully,” Sebaggala said.
