MOHAMMAD Abbas will dispatch his Cranes side in the LG Cup tournament tonight with an ultimatum of passing the ball around as a key strategy towards upsetting 2002 World Cup quarter-finalists Senegal in Cairo today.

The Egyptian, who will relish the occasion to impress in his own homeland, has maintained faith with the team that finished fourth in the just concluded CECAFA Senior Challenge Cup in Rwanda.

Cranes will be up against Senegal’s star-studded outfit but could change to a three-man attacking formation during the high-profile fixture if the 4-4-2 formation favoured previously, does not succeed.

Abbas will as usual expect his charges to play a patient game, keeping possession in a bid of frustrating the Lions of Teranga, also seeking reprieve after failing to qualify for the 2006 World Cup in Germany.

The 49-year old Abbas’ natural instinct is to be attacking but he will recognize the need to bend on the side of caution.

Noah Kasule, who was absent in Kigali, will consequently be asked to provide sufficient cover in the defensive midfield role to the backline of Andrew Mwesigwa and Tom Semogerere as Tony Mawejje and Steven Nsereko combine on either flanks to support Geoffrey Massa and Geoffrey Sserunkuuma.

Besides, the sh92m top winner’s prize at stake, the runners up will walk home with US$30000 (sh55m) and the third- placed team US20000 (sh37m).

Meanwhile, the event’s sponsors LG Distributors in Uganda hosted the national side to a cheering celebration at their head offices on Saturday.

While handing out T-shirts and umbrellas to the players, Appliance World commercial manager Jackie Walabyeki said the event would uplift soccer in Uganda.
