TWO DP members were yesterday nominated to contest for the Wakiso LC5 chairmanship.
Matthias Bwanika, a presenter at the Mengo-based CBS FM station, is the official DP candidate. Gerald Kayondo is running as an independent.
The incumbent, NRM’s Ian Kyeyune (right), will be nominated today.
Entebbe mayor Stephen Kabuye was nominated to contest for the same position on the NRM ticket.
The nomination exercise, presided over by Wakiso chief administrative officer George Ntulume at the district headquarters, however, started at a low pace with a few officers scrutinising candidates’ papers.
It was, however, boosted with more officers when Ntulume sent for more district staff to give a hand.
The officers had only two computers and manually scrutinised voters’ names.
Bwanika’s supporters, who had patiently waited downstairs as their candidate was going through the verification exercise, were ecstatic when he was declared a candidate.
Asked to comment about Kayondo’s candidature who is also a DP member, Bwanika said, “His candidature is absurd but it is not a shock to me because he is one person who likes doing what his body dictates when actually it is not what his heart thinks.”
