Who is behind Club Champagne?
THE year 2005 has been a year for new clubs in Kampala. First Club Voltz opened on Entebbe Road. Then some other new club opened up in Kibuye recently. Now, there is Club Champagne on Nasser Road. The swanky club swung its doors open for trial testing last weekend and scouts who attended say the place, still undergoing construction, will give our established joints a run for their money. It was hard to trace its ownership then, but we can now reveal that this new place, which has raised so much curiosity, is the brainchild of Katende "Iceman" Magambo of Nile Breweries, Cliff Butagira, a computer systems analyst with Crane Bank and Dr. Sam Magambo. From what we observed, the club has an upper bar overlooking the road (more like Silk Lounge), a general dance floor and an executive wing currently under construction. Will it withstand the storm of competition? Your guess is as good as ours.

'City Beat' stars' party
Just how easy is it to get Uganda's top musicians together for a party? It is not, especially when it is December, the busiest month on the entertainment calendar. So, the much-hyped City Beat 'Party with the Stars' bash has been pushed to January 18, 2006 at the Silk Lounge and will still be sponsored by Club. Thirty Ugandan top artistes will be there along with some of the top social elite. Thirty-five lucky City Beat readers will get the chance to meet their stars. How do you get in? Get a copy of the December edition of City Beat, fill out the coupon on Page 45 and return it to the New Vision office or any of its offices countrywide. A draw will be made on Thursday, January 12.

Ragga Dee now mature
Singer Ragga Dee has let the cat out of the bag on why he shuns fights with rival artistes. Ragga Dee, who was part of the team that flew in Nigerian star actor Zack Orji, was praised by his Nigerian associates who said he had set himself a class apart by not engaging in petty fights with his counterparts. In response, Ragga Dee boastfully said, "They are young. They are still growing up." Hmmm?

'Last King of Scotland'
IT looks like the glitz of Hollywood will be descending upon our town earlier than we had surmised. I'm informed that the premiere of the Last King of Scotland just moved up by a little over three months. We had expected it in the second half of the year. But word from the producers in the UK reveals that not only will the premiere be held in Kampala, but also as soon as March.

Nanyonjo in Afri-Talent
Nobody knew she had it in her until The Last King of Scotland. Now Brenda Nanyonjo, the fashion editor of African Woman, has taken her craft to the stage. After Ruth Kalibbala quit Afri-Talents, director Mariam Ndagire called her in. Brenda's first role as a mistress in Sebalamu Tebesigwa is already causing a stir among theatre lovers. Considering that she had to cancel her trip to Zanzibar, it is proving worthwhile.
