THE Italian government has donated medicine worth sh45m to internally displaced people (IDPs) in Lira district, reports Patrick Oyee.
Italian Cooperation’s emergency programme coordinator Laura Buffoni handed over the drugs to the LC5 chairperson, Franco Ojur, at the district chambers recently.
Buffoni said the donation was part of a consignment the Italian government has contributed to the war-ravaged districts of Gulu, Kitgum, Lira and Pader.
She said more assistance would be sent through Medical Aid Uganda, a Lira-based NGO.
The district deputy health director, Dr. Quinto Okello, said the district needed medicine and food for the over 65,000 IDPs, mostly children.
The CAO, Daniel Odwedo, thanked Italy for the support. He appealed to other donors for more assistance.
