Deputy Speaker Rebecca Kadaga on Saturday held a crisis meeting with chairpersons of parliamentary committees to discuss the implications of the nullification of the Constitution Amendment Act of 2000.

These included Ben Wacha, the chairperson of the rules, privileges and disciplinary committee, and Dora Byamukama of the legal and parliamentary affairs committee.
Fred Ruhindi, who sits on both committees, also attended the meeting.

On January 29, the Supreme Court made a ruling that nullified the Constitution Amendment Act of 2000.

The judgement was in favour of the Democratic Party President Dr. Paul Ssemogerere, Nwoya County MP Zachary Olum and Kibuku County MP Rainer Kafiire, who had challenged the constitutionality of the Act in the Supreme Court.

Wacha said he was not at liberty to discuss the subject of the meeting. However, an MP who claimed to be in the know said the meeting discussed the impact of the judgement. “The judgement grossly affected the way Parliament has been making laws. The meeting recommended that another law be made.
