Luweero — The district education officer, Edward Kisekka, has said 219 primary school teachers have been sacked due to lack of qualifications. He was recently presiding over the Primary Leaving Examinations certificate award ceremony of Bishop Nankyama Memorial primary school. He said out of the 9, 821 pupils in the district who sat for PLE last year, 1,525 got first grades, which he said was a great improvement.

Man to hang
KAMPALA — The High Court has sentenced a 24-year-old man to hang for aggravated robbery. Adam Semafumu, of Bwebajja in Wakiso district, robbed Regina Babirye, a shop attendant, of sh30,000 at gun-point. Court heard that Semafumu, who was sentenced by Justice J. B. Katutsi, was found with a pistol at the time of arrest.

IGG appeals
KAMPALA — The Inspector General of Government (IGG) is to appeal against the acquittal of Betty Nambooze Bakireke, the Mukono town council law enforcement officer, who had been convicted of corruption by the Buganda Road Court. She was, however, recently acquitted by High Court judge Okumu-Wengi.
