DELEGATES from the group of seven (G7) political parties and organisations have formulated a work plan and schedule of activities including selection of a joint presidential candidate for the 2006 elections.

The plan was part of the delegates’ resolutions made during a three-day retreat at Crested Crane Hotel in Jinja that closed on Sunday.

They recommended the resolutions to the summit of the parties and organisations’ leaders for implementation.

The retreat chairman and Tororo county MP, Geoffrey Ekanya, said the work plan entailed rehabilitation of the war affected northern Uganda.

A member of the G7 leadership, Terego MP Ezati Wadri, said it was time for the group to work in unity to find a presidential candidate for the 2006 elections.

“The future of this country is in our hands and history will judge us if we do not fulfil the aspirations we have ahead of us. We are left with less than two years to offer a candidate for the presidency and it is up to us to ensure we are not caught off guard,” Wadri said.

He said the Movement government’s description of democracy was elections, which have been taking place regardless of how they were conducted.

He added that this had denied Ugandans genuine democracy for 18 years.
