THE UPDF is to merge small camps for the displaced in Lira following the Barlonyo attack in which dozens of civilians were killed.

Army spokesman Maj. Shaban Bantariza told a government press briefing in Nakasero yesterday, the decision was contained in a communication from army chief Aronda Nyakairima on Wednesday.

“These small camps should be amalgamated to re-enforce these local defence forces,” Bantariza said.

He said similar security arrangements had been undertaken in Gulu and Kitgum.

State minister for health Mike Mukula said the Government was considering drafting educated Amuka and Arrow Boys into the Police and army.

Mukula, the Arrow Boys chairman in Teso, criticised UPC stalwart, James Rwanyarare, for saying it was suicidal to recruit the two militias.

“Rwanyarare is really politically expired. He is confusing people and thinks we are idiots,” Mukula, who repeatedly banged the table, stated.

He dared Rwanyarare to step in Teso and face the wrath of the population over his remarks.

Mukula said the achievements of the militias against the rebels spoke for themselves and that “Rwanyarare is part of the terror campaign.”
