THE year 2003 in sport is best remembered for the arrival of one Mike Ezra who took sports sponsorship to unprecedented levels and with it the 2004 USPA Gala that saw sports cream honoured in grand fashion.
Honoured, were those who caught everybody’s attention with glittering performances on and off the playing fields.
Here are the gleanings from the year that was packed with action.
Football: David Obua.
He was a living art gallery of amazing skill with crucial goals and overwhelming performances for both the Cranes and Express FC.
Rallying: Mr. Lumala senior should be happy to learn that his son Moses Lumala was the fastest that year. He showed elegance and right temperament to win the national rally championship.
Cricket: Armed with an enormous reputation and an awesome record against the best, Kenneth Kamyuka was always the prized scalp.
Rugby: Robert Seguya snatched it. This amazing superstar is powered by a 500horsepower V-12 engine and can deliver a top speed of 320kmph (Ask the Zimbabweans if you wouldn’t believe it).
Athletics: There was nothing more evocative than the sight of Boniface Kiprop who was so amazing and was duly honoured.

The other disciplines had
Golf: Charles Yokwe
Basketball: Sam Obol
Volleyball: Luke Eitet
Swimming: Aya Nakitanda
Boxing: Joseph Lubega
Netball: Annet Nakiwu
Table tennis: Amina Lukaya
Chess: Stephen Kavuma
