KAMPALA — A new video aimed at sensiting the masses on how best to control and prevent malaria is in the offing. The video that is being shot in Wakiso district will be out by May this year. Karen Bulsara, the technical adviser at PSI Uganda, a social marketing and communication for health firm, on Thursday said Discovery Channel is shooting the film. She said PSI would work hand in hand with the Ministry of Health to see how to translate the video into other languages once produced. Bulsara said the United States Agency for Develompent was the main funder of the activity.

NEBBI — The district vice-chairperson, Okwir Amula, has been elected vice-chairperson of the Nile University council. Amula, formerly a member of the university council, was elected unopposed at the first council meeting held at Ombachi Secondary School in Arua recently. The Moyo LC5 chairperso, Iku Dolo, heads the council. The university was started by people of the West Nile districts of Adjumani, Arua, Moyo, Nebbi and Yumbe.

RDC advises
MUKONO — The resident district commissioner (RDC), Deo Nsereko, has said the failure of sub-county leaders to supervise the schools properly contributed to the declining academic standards in the district. Nsereko was on a familiarisation tour of Goma, Kyampisi and Najja sub-counties recently. The LC5 chairperson, Godfrey Ddamulira, said parents should work with teachers if they want their children to pass well. At least 7,690 pupils failed in last year’s PLE.

MBALE — Tomorrow, President Yoweri Museveni will officially inaugurate women and youth councils at Mbale Cricket Grounds. The organising committee chairperson, Lt. Moses Watika, said 5,000 people had been invited. The resident district commissioner, Hajji Abbas Seguya, said the ceremony would have taken place earlier had it not been for interruptions by the International Women’s Day celebrations. Sources said Museveni was also expected to visit Sironko district.
