THE Police has said crime in Centenary Park in Kampala has increased, reports Catherine Ntabadde.
Police spokesperson Asuman Mugenyi on Tuesday appealed to Kampala City Council (KCC) to slash the area, saying it had become a hide-out for criminals.
He said murders in the park had resumed.
“It is KCC’s responsibility to clear that park,” he said.
A KCC official, Simon Muhuumuza, said the council could not develop the park because the exercise was costly.
“We tried to involve private firms but they wanted us to lease the land to them. They wanted to build hotels yet we wanted it to remain a park,” he said.
