KAMPALA — President Yoweri Museveni on Friday received a delegation of three Cabinet ministers from Tanzania led by the Minister of Education and Culture, Joseph Mungai, at State House, Nakasero. The ministers represented President Benjamin Mkapa at the burial of former Minister of Foreign Affairs James Wapakhabulo.

Floods cost KCC sh135b
KAMPALA — The Kampala City Council (KCC) needs over sh135b to fight floods in Bwaise, Natete and Ndeeba, the city engineer and surveyor, Abraham Byandala, has said. He said four big channels need to be rehabilitated to curb flooding in city suburbs. The channels are Lubigi, Nalukolongo, Kasanga and Mayanja. Byandala said on Saturday the Nakivubo Channel drains the city centre only.

Birigwa to pay bank
KAMPALA — The Commercial Court recently ordered Uganda’s Ambassador to Ethiopia Wasswa Birigwa to repay a loan of over sh49m obtained from the defunct Greenland Bank. Justice James Ogoola dismissed Birigwa’s application to be granted leave to defend the suit filed by the liquidator of the bank.

Crashes kill one daily
KAMPALA — The regional traffic Police officer, Gabriel Tibayungwa, has said one person is killed daily in road accidents in the city. He said one out of every five victims was a child. Tibayungwa was speaking at a music and drama gala organised by the Injury Control Clubs at Mpererwe Church of Uganda Primary School recently. The hosts emerged top.
