It’s the IGG who is frustrating himself!

SIR— I am writing in response to a story on the front page of The New Vision of March 24, titled, “Government frustrating me — IGG.â€
While presenting a paper at a workshop at Lake View Hotel Mbarara, Mr Jotham Tumwesigye heaped blame on the Government and courts for frustrating cases of corruption.
He referred to a case which was sent to the DPP in 1998 which was not yet complete to date. Much as this might be true, it is my personal view that the IGG has lost most of the cases due to poor investigations after premature arrests of suspects.
The methods used, especially in cases of trapping culprits while receiving bribes, are outdated and leave a lot of loopholes for the accused persons to get off the hook during prosecution.
Take, for example, cases of the former Chief Administrative Officer, Mbarara, Mr Katorogo. What were the results or was the IGG frustrated?
How about the case of a magistrate in Mbale who was arrested while receiving an envelope containing trap money?
The IGG should take the brunt of the mess and improve on up-to-date methods of
handling cases of fraud
and corruption other than shifting blame.
Every good citizen of this land should deplore, abhor and
condemn in the strongest possible terms acts of corruption which devastate the economy of our country.
