A visiting Sudanese Bishop has asked Ugandans for forgiveness on behalf of the Sudanese who committed atrocities against them during the rule of fallen former President Idi Amin.
Bishop Michael Luluga of Rajaf Diocese of Central Bari, Southern Sudan, said he was aware many Sudanese wronged Ugandans.
He was delivering an Easter sermon at the request of host Namirembe diocesan Bishop Balagadde Ssekkadde, during the main service also attended by Premier Prof. Apolo Nsibambi and former President Godfrey Binaisa.
“I want to apologise to you for the bad things that some Sudanese could have committed during the regime of Idi Amin. I want to humbly apologise,” Luluga said, as he bowed.
Ssekkadde called on the Government to address problems at Makerere University and the degenerating morals among Ugandans.
Luluga commended President Yoweri Museveni for the effort he has committed through IGAD to help end the conflict in southern Sudan.
He said he was grateful to Ugandans for hosting Sudanese refugees and prayed that the war-torn northern Uganda gets pacified.
Nsibambi said the Government was attending to Makerere University problems and the President would meet the lecturers on Tuesday at the International Conference centre, Kampala.
