Children body for launch
KAMPALA — The minister of of gender, labour and social development, Zoe Bakoko Bakoru, will on Thursday inaugurate a new council for the National Council for Children (NCC). NCC secretary general Sam Okuonzi said the function would be held at Fairway hotel. He said NCC aims at having children’s rights and responsibilities understood, recognised, appreciated, promoted and protected. The NCC is chaired by the Rev Fr Louis Turyemureeba.

Uganda to host judges
KAMPALA — Uganda is to host the 7th biennial conference of the International Association of Women Judges that will be held from May 9 to 13. This will be the first time for the conference to be held in Africa since its inception in 1991. The main theme of the conference is “Human Rights and Women’s Access to Justice”. Members from Canada, Australia, USA, Taiwan, Ireland, Kenya and the Uk are expected to attend.

Wife sues UNDP clerk
KAMPALA — An officer with the United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) was recently sued for failure to provide for his children. David Mwayi, reportedly working as the UNDP administration clerk to Uganda, allegedly refused to give food to his children. Losy Ninsiima, mother of the children, has petitioned City Hall family Court seeking maintenance and custody of the children.
