THE East African Procurement News has unveiled a multi-million co-sponsorship package for the forthcoming CECAFA clubs tournament in Kigali, Rwanda.
The business publication joined the tournament’s main sponsor, Rwanda President Paul Kagame, with sports equipment for the Cup’s referees and officials.

Kagame sponsors the tournament to a tune of $60,000 annually. The winner of the event will walk away with $30,000, runner up $20,000 and third $10,000.
The company offered 35 pieces of track suits, 70 pieces of T-shirts, 51 sets of training uniform, 34 pieces of training bibs and besides $1467 (sh3m) as referees physical fitness test award prize money to the region’s soccer governing body boss Denis Obua.

While handing over the assortment at the company’s main offices at Kololo yesterday, the publication’s Editor-in-Chief Stephen Asiimwe, said the move is just the start of the paper’s corporate social responsibility drive intended to develop society, sports inclusive.
“Because of our unprecedented growth, Procurement News has decided to partner with the CECAFA tournament that promises to be a successful event in the future with sport equipment that will support referees and officials,” said Asiimwe.

“The two parties have been neglected before yet they have been football’s main unsung heroes. We believe that football is the biggest uniting factor and we are glad to be the first company to co-sponsor referees and officials in any tournament,” he added.
CECAFA president Obua was all praises for the offer and sounded convinced this year’s tournament would be more than a success.

“Without motivated referees, a tournament can never succeed and we are grateful that Procurement have come to our rescue,” said Obua.
Group A will have APR (Rwanda), St. George (Ethiopia), Ulinzi (Kenya) and Elman (Somalia).
Group B has Express (Uganda), Simba (Tanzania), Jamhuri (Zanzibar), while group C has Villa (Uganda), Kiyovu (Rwanda), Muzinga (Burundi) and N. Gendemarie (Djibouti).
The top three teams in groups A and C and the top in B will proceed to the quarterfinals.
