The World Bank (WB) has given a grant of $270m for the rehabilitation of Mombasa-Malaba Railway.
Kenya’s permanent secretary in the transport ministry, Gereshom Ikiara said the governments of Uganda and Kenya were seeking funds for the construction of a railway from Kasese to Kisangani and for repairing the Kampala-Kasese line.
Ikiara said this at a luncheon organised by Uganda Manufacturers Association (UMA) on Wednesday.
“The dream is to connect Mombasa and Kasese to Kisangani and Matadi Port. The port is west of Kinshasa on the shores of the Atlantic Ocean,†he said.
