Mbarara — A woman has been sentenced to a one-year jail term after she pleaded guilty to burning the mouth of a 13-year-old boy. The victim, Hillary Baguma, is an orphan adopted by her husband. Court heard that Hope Ninyijuka, 24, recently used a hot spoon to burn Baguma’s mouth to scare the boy from being a romour-monger.

MP advises
KABAROLE — East African MP Sheila Kawamara has said women should be empowered to develop the Toro culture. She urged mothers to educate their children and take up leadership challenges. Kawamara was recently presenting a paper on the role of women in society at the concluded Toro conference held between 14-17 April.

RDC warns
kasese — The resident district commissioner, Barnabas Bamusede, has warned the Bakonzo against spending money on funerals and wedding ceremonies while their children lack fees. Bamusede was recently addressing parents at Kyempara primary school.

Guns found
Mbarara — The Police have recovered two automatic rifles suspected to have been used by gangsters to create illegal roadblocks and rob travelers on the Mbarara-Masaka road.
The Police commander, Wilson Kwanya, said the rifles were recovered from Biharwe town.
