THE first lady, Janet Museveni, has hailed the Women’s International Maternity Aid (WIMA) for the financial and material assistance to health centres in the country.
“The equipment is aimed at protecting mothers and children especially during antenatal and postnatal stages,” She said.
Janet, who is also the goodwill ambassador for safe motherhood in Uganda, was on Monday handing over hospital equipment worth sh2.2m to Koboko sub-district Health Centre at the International Conference Centre in Kampala.
The equipment is a donation from WIMA, an NGO of expatriate women dedicated to the improvement and expansion of mother and child health care facilities in Uganda, especially maternity care equipment.
Mrs. Museveni said Koboko women would access improved services.
The organisation has so far donated equipment to over 12 health centres countrywide.
The items donated included one delivery bed with a mattress, an examination couch, a labour ward infant cot, two pairs of four-panel ward screens complete with curtains, two drip stands, two medicine trolleys and trays.
Koboko Development Agency official Aluma Drani said the centre would also benefit mothers from neighbouring countries like Sudan.
