Uganda is one of six English-speaking African countries that have been invited by the French Ministry of Foreign Affairs and the African Cinema Programme to a special meet on the distribution of African movies.
The event, which comes in the wake of Amakula, a local film festival currently running in the country, is to be held from May 29 to May 31 in the Cameroonian capital Yaounde with an aim of initiating and setting up a network for distributing African films throughout the African continent.
Sidney Mukasa, the marketing manager of Cineplex Cinema left yesterday to represent the country. Alliance Franciase sponsored Mukasa’s trip. Cineplex is Uganda’s premier movie house. Distributors and exhibitor representatives from South Africa, Ghana, Nigeria, Kenya and Zimbabwe will attend.
Didier Martin, the director Alliance Francaise and Cultural attaché at the French Embassy in Uganda handed Mukasa the ticket at Cineplex Cinema, Garden City, on Tuesday this week.
“Cineplex is honoured to to attend such an important industry event. It will open up channels to new and developing markets for African films in Africa,” Mukasa said.
The event will mark the start of Ecrans Noirs (Black Screens), a film festival in which six Francophone African films with English subtitles will be screened.
