Let’s not lose the peace and gains we have made

SIR— I am responding to an article “Thugs hack nun to death” published in your edition on Thursday.

Through telephone and sms messages, I painfully got to learn of the sad accounts from testimonies in Virika, Fort-Portal of the cruelty and brutality to which the poor nun was subjected by the murderers.

The incident at Virika shows the level of lawlessness and disorder that is continuing to soil our once sung Pearl of Africa! Similar cases have been reported in the recent past.

About two weeks back, I heard of a family which was attacked at night near Kakumiro town, Kibaale district, in which the husband was brutally murdered leaving the widow badly injured and hospitalised at Mubende.

I would like to join all peace loving Ugandans and condemn such horrible acts whatever motives may be involved. Let the perpetrators of these crimes be brought to visible justice.
Meanwhile, the Government should take firm steps to protect the citizens at all levels.

Our country continues to deteriorate and we seem to be losing the fair peace and stability that fellow Ugandans bought us with their blood. The civil war in the north remains a thorn in the flesh of all Ugandans.

Our neighbours and the international community that once envied us for the big economic stride now feel sorry for us! Shall we ALL join hands to make peace for our motherland?
