THE chairman of the Nigerian ruling party, Chief Audu Ogbeh, arrived in Uganda on Wednesday night for a two-day visit to discuss and map out a way to fight poverty in Africa.

On Thursday morning, Ogbeh met with Vice-President Prof. Gilbert Bukenya in the VIP lounge at Parliament buildings and expressed his interest in being part of a revolution to help Africa develop.

“The chief is here on a special mission. We want to work out how to salvage the poor and modernise them in the whole of Africa. Secondly, we want to create a trading network in Africa,” Bukenya told the press during the meeting.

The Vice-President met Chief Ogbeh in Nigeria late last year during a heads of state summit in Lagos, Nigeria and invited him to Uganda to share experiences in the struggle against poverty.

“I have been very impressed by the chief’s idea on helping the poor, and I think we should concretise them. I told the ADB (African Development Bank) governors on Sunday that it is high time banks set up a fund to help the poor. All institutions should focus on helping the poor. Once we do that then we shall have stability and continued progress,” Bukenya said.
