PRESIDENT Yoweri Museveni has warned people living with HIV/AIDS against using Anti-retro viral (ARVs) drugs unless directed by a doctor.
“The Government has now got enough ARVs to treat all HIV/AIDS victims in the country but I warn you not to opt for it just because you are positive. The drug has its own side effects. It can make you weaker,†he said.
He was addressing residents of Kisoro district at the Saza Playground on Wednesday.
Museveni and his wife, Janet, recently received a Hero award 2004 from the United States Medical Institute for Sexual Health in recognition of their fight against the HIV/AIDS scourge.
He warned against promiscuity, saying, “you people should not loosen your nuts because you have heard that there are drugs. ARVs are not for curing but for support.â€
Museveni denied claims that the Government had forgotten Kisoro by not tarmacking the Kabale-Kisoro road.
He said, “I cannot forget my family unless I am mad and deserve to be taken to Butabika. We first worked on things that could not wait like children’s education and health for all.â€
Museveni said the energy ministry would construct a hydro electric plant at Nyarubuye in Busanza sub-county to solve the problem of rural electrification in the district.
He said the Government had embarked on increasing household incomes for all citizens.
“We are now determined to make every Ugandan produce something to bring to the market,†Museveni said.
The district chairman, Dr. Philemon Mateke, said the district hoped to vote 100% in favour of a third term for the President.
