Justice Julia Ssebutinde will today hear a case in which 78-year-old Zaverio Rutaimana is being held over defilement charges.
Rutaimana, a herdsman and a resident of Kyalusebeka village in Ngoma sub-county, Luweero district, allegedly committed the offence on December 28, 2002 when he approached the girl who was also grazing cattle to direct him to a neighbour’s home.
Ssebutinde remanded him in Luzira Prison on Friday.

RPC warns

THE new mid-eastern regional Police commander (RPC), Andrew Sorowen, has warned the Police against torturing suspects.
Speaking at a hand-over ceremony from his predecessor, Bob Ngobi, on Wednesday, Sorowen said he would not tolerate such human rights abuse.
He advised the Force against corruption.

Man charged

KAMPALA Buganda Road Court Grade One Magistrate Justine Atukwasa has remanded a UPDF veteran over assault charges.
Isma Nsubuga, 22, of Nsambya allegedly boxed and injured Maurice Rumozimisi at the Nakivubo Mews on June 20.
He denied the charges on Friday but was sent to Luzira Prison for lack of surety to secure him bail.

Thief jailed

Iganga Grade One Magistrate David Kidyanka on Thursday sentenced a habitual bicycle thief to five years in Bufulubi Prison.
Ali Bogere, a resident of of Nkono village in Iganga town council, pleaded guilty to stealing Nabirye Lukungu’s bicycle worth sh98,000 on June 17.
Court heard that Bogere had committed similar offences in April and June 2002 but getting off with lighter sentences.
