The director of Drito Global Corporation in Kampala, Martin Drito Andia, was on Tuesday beaten up by a mob in Arua town, when his Lexus-LX car rammed into six kiosks, knocked a bodaboda cyclist and hit a mango tree.
The driver of the car, which had a personalised registration number plate, DRITO, reportedly took to his heels, leaving the tycoon at the hands of the mob.
Drito was rescued by the mobile Police.
Armed with hammers, axes and stones, the mob smashed the car windscreen, as the Police shielded Drito from being hurt.
Nine people were admitted to Arua Hospital, the district Police commander, William Onziga, said.
He said the car’s computer system might have failed, leading to loss of control.
Witnesses said before the accident, the car was taken for service to Mango-Tree Mechanics, who could have tampered with its computer system.
Drito left Arua on Wednesday morning with plasters on his head while his Lexus remained at Arua Police Station.
Drito’s office in Kampala is located on the sixth floor of the Workers House.
