THE Anti Corruption Coalition Uganda (ACCU) on Wednesday demanded that gender, labour and social development minister Zoe Bakoku Bakoru resigns for failure to control corruption in the National Social Security Fund (NSSF).

ACCU coordinator Geoffrey Rwakabale told journalists that the mismanagement in NSSF started when Alcon contractors inflated the cost to build Workers’ House, valuation of Udyam House to the recent scam between Mugoya Construction Company and the NSSF.

“Bakoku did not do anything and was even party to some deals. She needs to resign in public interest or even be sacked for failure to oversee the progress of NSSF,” he said.

Rwakabale said Bakoku should not have waited for the President to intervene before making recommendations against the dubious deals.

He said the leader of government business in Parliament, Apolo Nsibambi, should resign for failure to monitor NSSF.

ACCU also objected to the transfer of NSSF to the finance ministry.

“The solution to the problems in NSSF does not lie in the transfer. The finance ministry has no capacity and moral authority to manage NSSF.

The finance ministry mismanaged Uganda Development Bank, the Entandikwa scheme and failed to check corruption in Uganda Revenue Authority.

With the transfer, the risk of the workers money has tripled and the funds are now very vulnerable,” a statement said.
