THE Apac District Fishmongers Association has decried the low catches on Lake Kwania which has resulted into high prices of fish this year.

“Prices of fish are high at landing sites because of poor catches from Lake Kwania,” the association’s chairman, Patrick Ogwang, said in an interview at Wansolo landing site, recently.

Ogwang said a nile-perch weighing a kilogramme costs sh1,000 up, from sh500 last year.

He attributed the poor catches to the government policy of eliminating under-sized fishnets from lakes and rivers.

Ogwang said they had started selling fish in Acholi after the decline of rebel activities there.
